Accountabilities Professor Geoff Holm (www.colgate.edu/gholm) seeks a part-time research technician to assist with laboratory maintenance and support NIH-funded research investigating innate immune responses to mammalian reovirus infection. In this capacity, the technician will assist with supply ordering, maintenance of mammalian cells in culture, and monitoring and maintaing laboratory equipment, reagents, and biological samples. Additionally, the technician will assist with or conduct experiments, in association with other lab personnel, and may support the laboratory component of a Colgate University Virology class.
Maintain and monitor laboratory equipment, including incubators, water baths, tissue culture hoods, pipettors, a liquid nitrogen storage tank, and glassware.
Maintain and monitor laboratory reagents, including biological samples, liquid tissue culture media, virus and cell line stocks, and other associated reagents.
Assist with supply ordering and maintenance.
Assist with or conduct experiments, as designed by or with the principal investigator or other lab personnel.
Professional Experience/ Qualifications
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently as necessary.
Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.
Experience with mammalian tissue culture and handling of Biosafety Level 2 agents, and previous laboratory research experience preferred.
A baccalaureate degree in one of the life sciences is required.
