UC Davis Health Contracts oversees the negotiation of managed care contracts and healthcare payor contracts for UC Davis Health. UC Davis Health Contracts also serves as the primary liaison between UC Davis Medical Center Managed Care Department and all contracted physicians, hospitals and ancillary providers.
 
Job Summary
Position will be hired at Managed Care Specialist 3 or 4 depending upon experience; one position available.

Responsibilities
The Manager, Managed Care Contracting (Managed Care Specialist 3 or 4) is responsible for initiating, negotiating, overseeing, processing, and implementing managed care payor and provider contracts with health plans, insurance companies, and downstream providers. The incumbent also serves as a resource for UC Davis Health staff and others to provide information and advice on the terms of the contracted agreements. Additionally, this position evaluates and implements changes in federal and state law and University policy related to health care contracting and provides information and training to UC Davis Health staff in the preparation, negotiation, and administration of managed care contracts. The Manager will work independently and proactively with decision-making responsibility under the general consultative direction of the Director of UC Davis Health Contracts and in collaboration with internal constituents including Claims Payment, Risk Management, and Legal Affairs.
 
Managed Care Specialist 3
Required Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge pertaining to managed health care programs, products, operations and policies
  • At least 4-5 years or equivalent experience preparing and negotiating managed care payor or provider contracts with documented experience negotiating hospital, medical group, ancillary, pharmacy and downstream agreements in a health care and/or payer setting
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner, via email, letter and contract documents with the ability to interact with a wide variety of people in the private sector, public sector, government, non-profit organizations, and educational intuitions, as well as with internal faculty and staff at UC Davis and UC Davis Health
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally in a clear, concise and professional manner, with the ability to interact with a wide variety of people in the private sector, public sector, government, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions, as well as with internal faculty and staff at UC Davis and UC Davis Health
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise personal initiative and direction, to maintain a sense of self-confidence sufficient to enable incumbent to accept responsibility for decisions, attempt difficult or unfamiliar tasks, develop new sources or information, present recommendations persuasively, and to both provide and receive advice effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and recommend appropriate strategy to department management based upon knowledge and data
  • Demonstrated ability to pay very strong attention to detail in all work products and interactions, both written and oral
  • Operating knowledge and skills necessary to utilize business applications such as MS Word, Excel, Acrobat and the Internet
Preferred Qualifications
  • Financial modeling skills with expertise in medical data, spreadsheets and database applications
  • Prior work experience in an academic health care system or a payer, and knowledge of academic or healthcare policies, procedures and issues
  • Familiarity with UCDHs C360 Contract Management Software
  • Business or related degree, or degree in Law
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pertinent university policies and procedures falling within the scope of this position
 
Managed Care Specialist 4
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated advanced experience and knowledge pertaining to managed care programs, products, operations and policies
  • 5+ years of extensive experience preparing and negotiating complex managed care payor or provider contracts with documented experience negotiating hospital, medical group, ancillary, pharmacy and downstream agreements in a health care and/or payer setting
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner, via email, letter and contract documents with the ability to interact with a wide variety of people in the private sector, public sector, government, non-profit organizations, and educational intuitions, as well as with internal faculty and staff at UC Davis and UC Davis Health
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally in a clear, concise and professional manner, with the ability to interact with a wide variety of people in the private sector, public sector, government, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions, as well as with internal faculty and staff at UC Davis and UC Davis Health
