Supervisor of College Nursing

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) or more years of experience in a nurse leadership role. Current New York State RN License.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing. Two (2) years of full-time supervisory experience in a medical setting. Three (3) or more years of experience in clinical practice. Management experience in an outpatient setting (primary care, family medicine or urgent care facility). Experience working with a college student population.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Supervisor of College Nursing will be supervisory and clinical. The incumbent is responsible for the clinical and administrative duties as well as daily operations of the nurse activities within the Student Health Service. Supervises and coordinates nursing staff including medical assistants. Demonstrates excellence in leadership, team building, critical thinking, observation, assessment, and interventions. Maintains confidentiality and patient records in accordance with procedures and regulatory standards. Responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective triage system; coordinates workflow and assign priorities for nursing staff, devises strategies and utilizes technology for achieving desired outcomes.

The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising good organizational and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a diverse team with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Clinical: Oversees and participates in the process of triage of patient problems and emergencies that may present. Supervise individuals involved in sterilization procedures. Collaborates with the physicians in facilitating nursing care. Serve as the Student Health Service Infection Control Program Coordinator instructing staff on appropriate infection control/ prevention measures. Conducts surveillance and investigation of public health concerns in conjunction with the Department of Health. Effectively assess and monitor programs such as Influenza and prevention strategies. Identify the educational needs of staff; plan, coordinate and implement ongoing nursing education.

Administrative: Ensures the nursing service is staffed appropriately, covering staffing variances using available resources. Ensures and maintains adequate and proficient levels of nursing patient care by providing training. Responsible for collaborating on the recruitment of nursing staff. Establishes, communicates, and maintains a vision that reflects institutional and departmental goals and priorities through staff meetings and other strategies. Encourages interaction and collaboration across all areas of Student Health, Wellness and Prevention services. Supervise individuals involved with referrals, patient follow up on labs, and medical advice line follow up. Serves as a highly visible medical center resource and consultant on matters of student health and preventative care and education. Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and with the maintenance of AAAHC accreditation. Considers the needs and behaviors of the student population and cultural backgrounds in all patient care. Liaison with University Hospital Emergency Rooms, NYSDOH.

Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such are required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are cancelled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
