Overview

American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), a membership organization dedicated to the advancement of women’s health care in Washington, DC, is currently seeking a Program Director Alliance for Innovation in Maternal Health (AIM). The AIM Program Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the AIM Program implementation, AIM special projects and other ACOG activities.

This is a 100% grant-funded position reporting to the SR. Director.

The Program director is responsible for overseeing the activities of the staff to achieve deliverables to various funders and program objectives. The AIM Program Director provides leadership over program planning, implementation, and reporting of program activities to the Senior Director, the AIM Executive Team, AIM Partners, funders and ACOG leadership. The Senior Director will manage the business office functions (budgets, contracts, pre-award and post award compliance, financial forecasting and financial reporting) of the AIM program, and the Director will manage the programmatic functions of the AIM program. While this separation in duties can be articulated here, it is clear the financial and programmatic functions are inextricably linked, and consistent collaboration will be required. The Senior Director will be held ultimately accountable for program performance, and oversight of Program Director and staff work products.



Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the ACOG-AIM Program managers and Data Analysts.
  • Manage staff activities, including planning, organizing, staffing, leading, budgeting, and controlling quality of all program activities.
  • Manage the recruitment, training and supervision of new and existing staff. Including but not limited to assigning projects and tasks and ensuring adherence to organizational standards, procedures, and requirements.
  • Support all AIM workgroups, including but not limited to Bundle workgroups, the Community workgroup, Substance Use Disorder workgroup, Rural Health workgroup, and the Data/Metrics workgroup. Specific managerial tasks include identification of leadership, design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Identify state-wide, regional, and national strategic partnership opportunities and initiate new grant proposal processes to expand AIM funding sources
  • Seek input from the Senior Director on program activities and progress toward deliverables.
  • Identify, track, and monitor project-related issues, scope changes, variances and contingencies that may arise during implementation and execution and communicate these variances to the Senior Director and funders.
  • Direct and coordinate the work of consultants, vendors, staff, and others involved in the development and implementation of activities, materials, and events.
  • Create work plans, timelines, and content for funding proposals, including AIM strategies, outcomes and programmatic vision.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director to prioritize program activities and funding requests.
  • Review and monitor all data collection and analysis generated by the AIM team and identify appropriate outlets for discussion and distribution.
  • Ensure program compliance with organizational and funder requirements, reporting, and standards.
  • Identify, foster, and maintain new and existing collaborative relationships with other ACOG departments and divisions, ACOG section and district leadership, expert advisors, training sites, and colleague organizations.
  • Identify, foster, and maintain new and existing collaborative relationships with external partners.
  • Oversee the development and distribution of AIM materials including reports, manuals, marketing materials, newsletters, and website.
  • Represent ACOG AIM Program at internal and external meetings, conferences, and panels.
  • Respond to member and public requests for technical assistance and other guidance.
  • Plan executive team meetings, develop agenda materials, and guide /facilitate the meeting.
  • Encourage staff ownership and initiative of program activities by seeking staff input, supporting staff ideas, appropriately delegating responsibilities, and monitoring results.
  • Respond to congressional, media and funder inquiries on AIM activities.
  • Direct and support other AIM Program activities, as assigned by Sr. Director.

  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in health-related field, clinical and quality improvement experience preferred.
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in program management and development and supervision of multidisciplinary staff.
    • Minimum 7 years related experience required, including 3 years progressively responsible project management experience in medical, public health, or clinical programs.
    • Experience in sustaining and fostering public/private partnerships.
    • Experience in working with state-local public health systems and community-based organizations preferred.
    • Experience with translating complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

    • Broad understanding of issues regarding access to and quality of maternal health services.
    • Demonstrated skill in designing, implementing, and evaluating medical or public health programs and outreach activities, materials, and events.
    • Strong written and communication skills; demonstrated public speaking skills and ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
    • Self-motivated, with the ability to exercise independent judgment, prioritize and implement multiple projects, and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.
    • Demonstrated skill in negotiating controversial issues.
    • Strong computer skills including aptitude in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and content management systems.
    • Ability to travel frequently, often overnight and for several days.
