Assistant Professor (Ladder, Ladder/In-Residence) - Endocrinology and Metabolism

The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism (http://med.ucsd.edu) in the Department of Medicine at University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Division is internationally recognized for its research in endocrine diseases and diabetes and is actively recruiting outstanding faculty at the Assistant Professor level for a tenure-track position.
The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism is world renowned for its metabolic research program. Over more than 30 years, the Division has focused on research into glucose metabolism, diabetes, lipoproteins and cardiovascular disease. This program has led to seminal discoveries such as the role of insulin resistance in diabetes, the effect of obesity to cause inflammation and insulin resistance, and lipid oxidation in athersclerosis. The Division is interested in recruiting strong candidates with demonstrated research excellence and a defined research interest in the areas of tissue derived mediators of insulin resistance, circulating biomarkers for fatty liver disease, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, or the metabolic syndrome.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong individual research program, to complement the existing research interests and contribute to the research portfolio of the Division, and to provide future strategic leadership in research.
Applicants must have an M.D., M.D./Ph.D, Ph.D, or equivalent. Candidates with an M.D. must be ABIM board certified in Endocrinology and Metabolism and eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the California Medical Board. Candidates with a Ph.D only must be in the area of Immunology, Endocrinology or related field.
Appointment will be at the Assistant rank. Series will include 100% Ladder Rank or 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding. Rank and series of appointment will be based on skills and qualifications of the candidate. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
