Job Description

Responsible for providing patient services using medical ultrasound under the supervision of a physician responsible for the use and interpretation of ultrasound procedures. 

1. Performs appropriate ultrasound procedures and records anatomical, pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.
2.  Assists the physician in gathering sonographic data necessary to diagnose a variety of conditions and diseases.
3. Obtains, reviews and integrates pertinent patient medical history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results.
4.  Provides patient education related to medical ultrasound.
5.  Records and processes sonographic data.
6.  Provides patient services in a variety of medical settings.
7.  Performs quality assurance checks on equipment, ensuring proper safety standards are met. 
Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree required. A degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonographypreferred.
Experience: No experience required. However, Diagnostic Medical Sonography experience stronglypreferred.
License/Certification: ARRT(S) or ARDMS certification required. Registered VascularTechnologist certification required within 6 months of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.

Clinical experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a preference. 
The Fetal Care Center is a rapidly growing unit of the UVA Health System. Located in the Maternal-Fetal Care Center in the newly opened Battle Building, care in this unit is supervised by five fellowship-trained Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists. Physicians are on site in the unit daily and interact directly and closely with the patients and the sonographers. The unit staff includes two full-time, board-certified Genetic Counselors. We provide education in prenatal diagnosis to University of Virginia resident physicians and medical students and plan to open a Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship in the near future. The sonographers perform ultrasound examinations in inpatient and outpatient settings for both low and high-risk obstetrics patients, including anatomical survey, prenatal genetic screening, serial cervical length evaluations, nuchal translucency screening, fetal well-being surveillance, spectral and color flow Doppler velocimetry, amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling and umbilical blood sampling/transfusion. Our staff works as part of a multidisciplinary team of specialists to best care for our patients with high-risk pregnancies to optimize their outcomes.

Pay Range: $27.84 – $44.54
