Type: Regular, full-time

Status: Non-exempt

Hourly rate: $21.87 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Schedule may require flexibility based on program needs.)


SBCS Corporation operates a 24/7 year-round confidential, emergency shelter program for victims of domestic violence and their children. Services include 24-hour emergency shelter, food, transportation, 24-hour crisis hotline, psychological support and peer counseling, referrals to community resources, and community education and outreach. The program also provides transitional housing, rapid rehousing, and other housing support for victims of domestic violence and their children.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Coordinator of Facilities, the Maintenance Associate is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of property, including interior and exterior areas. Maintenance completes and/or coordinates all building & grounds issues related to daily, periodic, and preventative maintenance.


DUTIES:

  • Responsible for completing maintenance repairs of facility.
  • Conscientious approach to maintaining all common areas of the shelter daily.
  • Keep all areas of the facility and property maintained in a manner that ensures the safety of the clients and staff.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and practices on site.
  • Daily maintenance includes, but is not limited to, clearing of walkways and parking areas; trash removal; and general equipment, furniture and building repairs as identified and reported by staff on the maintenance tracking log and/or assigned by the Facilities Program Coordinator.
  • Strict adherence to the daily/weekly/monthly and annual maintenance checklist.
  • With the support of the Resident Manager, maintenance will be responsible for preparing units for new incoming clients.
  • Support with weekly unit inspections and responding to maintenance needs.
  • Maintain detailed and thorough maintenance logs.
  • Remain flexible and easily adapt to crisis situations.
  • Report incidents and maintenance issues as required to supervisor.
  • Attends required meetings and training.
  • Pick-up and deliver donations and other programmatic / maintenance items as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Coordinator of Facilities and/or Program Director.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of maintenance experience or training required.
  • Detail oriented, flexible, self-motivated.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • As part of their daily work responsibilities, employee may be required to drive an agency vehicle therefore candidate should hold a valid driver's license, be insurable and have a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.

Condition of Employment

  • Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, physical exam, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program.
  • Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver's license and valid auto insurance policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift.
  • Moves throughout the building.
  • Moves, raises, or lowers (includes upward pulling) an object or equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Transports an object, from 20 to 50 lbs. across the facility, for various needs.
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force.
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking)
  • Ascending or descending stairs and ladders when applicable. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when ascending, descending, traversing.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with objects or office machinery.
  • Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Communicating is important for those activities in which workers must impart information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, or quickly.
