Position Summary:
The UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a Nursing Operations Manager to join our Clinical Research Office. The Nursing Operations Manager will be responsible for the following:

Supervisory responsibilities : Responsible for the supervision and training of Research Nurses and Laboratory Technicians within the Clinical Research Office (CRO). Assists in the selection, training, and orientation of personnel, recommends personnel actions, and evaluates work performance.

Leadership responsibilities : Serves as the Associate Director of the CRO and is involved in the overall planning and management of the CRO office. Responsible for facilitating the interaction between the oncology clinical research program and the clinical service line components. Attends pertinent conferences and meetings with a variety of stakeholders, such as Cancer Center leadership, Clinical Working Group teams, CRO staff, external parties, and study sponsor representatives. Provides applicable information and reports as necessary for the advancement of clinical research within and outside the CRO. Participates in system-wide research workgroups. Establishes and promotes positive working relationships within the department, throughout the health system, and between other institutions involved in clinical research.

Clinical responsibilities : Participates in and coordinates the planning, development, and implementation of clinical protocols in accordance with research parameters set out by the Principal Investigator, sponsoring agency, and regulatory bodies. Identifies barriers to timely/coordinated care and actively participates to identify/implement potential solutions. Engages relevant providers (physicians, mid-levels, clinic nurses) to ensure that clinical issues that arise at all points of contact are addressed in a timely fashion. Serves as Research Nurse back-up in response to staffing shortages, performing all relevant Research Nurse responsibilities. Responsible for the adherence to clinical trials regulations including but not limited to registry, device, medical, surgical, and outcomes research. Provides patient eligibility verification to patient-facing CRO staff by evaluating clinical reports and medical records. Acts as a clinical resource for CRO staff and participates in the protocol review and feasibility process.

Organizational development responsibilities : Assists in the development and implementation of clinical trial processes and procedures to expand clinical trial access to patients across the state of New Mexico, guides research activities that advocate for patients, and supports human subject research regulations and assures protocol compliance. Assures compliance with all system, Cancer Center, and CRO quality assurance requirements, instituting controls to assure accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of research data where necessary. Identifies trial portfolio gaps by continually assessing the needs of clinicians and the UNMCCC patient population.

Educational responsibilities : Develops and executes educational in-services to internal and external stakeholders pertinent to the performance of clinical research to ensure high level and consistent services provided to UNMCCC research programs and customers. Provides guidance, training, and education to CRO staff relating to protocol treatment, care, management, and follow-up of patients enrolled on all trials, but especially highly complex research studies.

Performs other duties as requested to support department and clinical trial activities.

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its 125 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 500 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provided cancer care for nearly 60 percent of the adults and children in New Mexico affected by cancer. They treated 11,249 patients in 84,875 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. These patients came from every county in the State. More than 12 percent of these patients participated in cancer clinical trials testing new cancer treatments and 35 percent of patients participated in other clinical research studies, including tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The 130 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded almost $60 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects and published 301 high quality publications. Promoting economic development, they filed more than 30 new patents in FY16, and since 2010, have launched 11 new biotechnology start-up companies. Scientists associated with the UNMCCC Cancer Control & Disparities have conducted more than 60 statewide community-based cancer education, prevention, screening, and behavioral intervention studies involving more than 10,000 New Mexicans. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 230 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery. Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree in Nursing or directly related field/discipline; at least 8 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure State of New Mexico Licensed Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the multistate privilege to practice compact with New Mexico.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
