Responsibilities

 

The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is committed to understanding and promoting well-being amongst the physicians-in-training (medical students, residents and fellows) which it serves. Availability of appropriate mental health services is vital in supporting the emotional and intellectual development, resiliency, and personal well-being of medical students, residents and fellows, in order to optimize their abilities to thrive in UCLA's diverse learning environment.

We are seeking a psychologist who will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to provide clinical services designed to assist students and house staff (residents and fellows) in optimizing their educational and training experiences, and minimizing the impact of illness, injury, and emotional distress on their academic careers by providing and coordinating mental health care through a network of campus and clinical resources.

Under the clinical supervision of the Department of Psychiatry, and the administrative supervision of the Dean's Office at DGSOM, you will provide the highest quality mental health services for the wide range of needs that are presented by this specific population. This includes performing a broad range of tasks, including: ADHD assessment, mental health screening and triage; counseling and psychotherapy; consultation, outreach, prevention, and mental health education in the medical school; emergency services; and well-being program development.

Qualifications

 

  • PhD in Clinical Psychology, Psy, Doctor of Psychology from an American Psychological Association-approved program and completion of an approved internship
  • Licensed for the practice of psychology in California
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct brief psychotherapy and crisis intervention
  • Demonstrated skills in consultation work with professional and non-professional colleagues
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and intervene with severely psychologically disturbed clients
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and ethics pertaining to mental health
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and provide care trauma informed care including racial trauma
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Knowledge of the EMR and basic computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Flexibility to provide some evenings and weekend coverage

PREFERRED:

  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in a mental health setting
  • Minimum of one year in a student counseling or student mental health setting
  • Knowledge of the medical school and residency training environments and of the developmental issues of medical students and house staff
