The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), School of Public Health (SPH), Division of Environmental and Occupational health Sciences is seeking applications for a Research Associate II, who will be involved in all aspects of a national research study examining the health of coal miners.

This position conducts research by assisting with the collection, entry and cleaning of data and descriptive results. The selected candidate will be responsible for obtaining informed consent from subjects; conducting subject interviews; collection, abstraction, and entry of study data; maintaining Institutional Review Board and other regulatory requirements; coordination and tracking of overall study; performing surveys, interviews, observations or using other methods according to established research protocols; analyzing data and summarizing research and test results; may be assisting with study protocol development; coordinating the ordering, inventory and maintenance of equipment, instruments and data collection and analysis tools; preparing and contributing statistical data and pertinent information for papers, grants and other documents; completing required documentation for regulatory agencies; performing other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.



Candidate must have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in social science, public health, or related field required.
  • A minimum of one year related research experience.
  • Knowledge of research concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Candidate must possess strong organizational skills given the large scope of the study and robust interpersonal skills.
  • A basic understanding of health care systems and an interest in or experience with coal mine operations/terminology is preferred.
