Job Description

Provide long-term, in-depth counseling and emotional assistance to patients and families. Develop treatment plans based on psychosocial assessment. Maintain complete patient records.

Position Description:
The Social Worker, LICSW provides assessment and clinical care, including evaluation, diagnosis,
treatment, consultation, and referral, to a diverse population of Harvard students and their dependents.
Counsels and provides outreach and education, consults with university administrators, maintains quality
assurance, and participates in improvement activities. Participates in weekday urgent care schedules.


This position is specifically for a clinician who has experience working with young adults with eating
disorders or significant problems with disordered eating. The clinician will work with our
interdisciplinary team of mental health clinicians, psychiatrists, nutritionists and internists in a
weekly team meeting. The work of this clinician will include evaluation, diagnosis and making
appropriate treatment recommendations, including transition to care in the community or higher level of care.

Clinical Care of Patients:

· Assess, manage, and maintain a case load that includes client's struggling with eating disorders.

· Facilitates the clinical management of patients through the process of evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, and referral to the appropriate resources.

· Provides individual, group, and crisis intervention.

· Coordinates out-patient visits to ensure timely access to the appropriate services.

· Identifies and monitors high-risk patients and expedites an individualized crisis management plan.

· Develops and maintains mechanisms to assure continuity of care for individuals requiring acute care.

· Provides and documents patient education.

· Assists and participates in the development of treatment plans consistent with the policies and procedures of the Mental Health Service.

· Supervises trainees, including social work interns, psychiatry residents, and psychology trainees.

· Provides outreach and consults with Houses, Tutors, Proctors, and Deans' offices and other officers of the University.

· Develops and conducts training sessions.

· Supports primary care model.

· Manages caseload appropriately.

· Documents all patient contacts accurately and in a timely manner.

· Manages clinically expected outcomes to treatment.

· Make appropriate referrals.

· Identifies and assesses appropriateness of care and accessibility.


Professional/Team Workplace Accountability:

· Works in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team.

· Participates in quality assurance/improvement activities in compliance with

AAAHC standards and identifies areas for improvement. Adheres to HUHS

documentation standards and monitoring.

Participates in weekday urgent care schedule and serves on HUHS departmental committees as needed. · Demonstrates dependable work ethic.

Compliance: · Adheres to the expectations and professional responsibilities of the department. · Employs the standards, practices, and procedures of the department. · Completes and complies with HUHS training requirements including HIPAA Privacy and Security. · Reports non-compliance incidents to the supervisor, manager, and/or Compliance Officer.

Typical Core Duties :
Conduct psychosocial assessments in order to develop a comprehensive out-patient care plan that guides work with the patient
Provide supportive counseling to patients and families to enhance coping skills and resolve concerns
Facilitate evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, consultation, collaboration, and referral of patients for appropriate care
Provide timely and appropriate documentation in patient's medical file
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, support staff, community agencies, and other health care professionals to implement safe, effective and timely patient care
Communicate with treating clinicians on areas of concern; provide clinical updates to clinicians on a regular basis
Facilitate trainings on working with clients, safety planning, suicide assessment and other topics
Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations


Working Conditions: Travel may be required
May be required to work nights and weekends

Basic Qualifications:
Master's degree or equivalent work experience required
Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Preferred Experience with emergency care and crisis management. Demonstrated work experience in, managing eating disorders, multicultural adjustment issues, student health issues, and outreach and consultation in a university community.
