General Overview
The primary role of East Carolina University for this project is to provide oversight and project management services to further field test a novel device to rapidly detect pesticides among a representative sample of agricultural workers.
This position demands a great deal of responsibility and expertise in organization, communication, and technology. The individual in this role will oversee all aspects of the field study project, ensuring they align with an approved ECU, IRB protocol. As the Project Manager, this person will implement and enforce quality control procedures in a secure work environment. They will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and collaborate with fellow researchers, not-for-profit organizations, laboratory technicians, and information technology developers.
Summary Description:
- This is a 40-hour-per-week position.
- Responsibilities include project management of duties including overseeing all data collection procedures, review of data for quality control, purchasing supplies, and ensuring QC of lab samples and shipment.
- Perform data entry and data analysis of the research hypothesis using descriptive and multivariate statistics.
- Participate in the development of independent and collaborative presentations and publications.
- Perform literature reviews and contribute to manuscripts.
- Travel to the central N.C. region area is a requirement. The PM must have a valid N.C. driver's license and a personal vehicle. Overnight stay is not anticipated but may be required in some instances.
- Prepare scholarly academic materials including posters, and manuscripts, and attend scientific meetings and conferences.
Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety, responsible conduct of research, and human subjects training
Job Duties: Approximately 75% of the PM's time will be devoted to managing the day-to-day activities including project management, coordinating with field staff, data collection, inputting data, packaging, interviews, driving, preparing, shipping, and tracking laboratory specimens/samples.
Approximately 25% of the PM's time will be devoted to performing literature reviews and contributing to manuscripts. Prepare scholarly academic materials including posters, and manuscripts, and attend scientific conferences.

Minimum Education/Experience:
The position requires a candidate with a terminal degree in Public Health, Environmental and Occupational Health, or a closely related field, along with a proven record of expertise in data collection and data management in a field study environment.
The successful candidate will be highly organized and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in English, database management and data analysis, and CITI certification is required. Furthermore, the candidate must possess a strong understanding of IRB protocols and data security. Excellent problem-solving and project management skills are essential, and the candidate should have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

- Adaptability and Flexibility: Field studies often involve unpredictable elements; the preferred candidate would demonstrate the ability to embrace change and adapt effectively.
- The ability to speak and write in Spanish is desired, but not a requirement.
